Lady Indians shutout MT to open SCOL slate

HILLSBORO — In a span of four days, the Hillsboro Lady Indians haven't given up a single goal, and on Tuesday, they showed they are prepared to start the journey of defending the co-South Central Ohio League title they won last season.
Hillsboro controlled all aspects of their 80 minutes on the field with SCOL foe Miami Trace at Richards Memorial Field, which led them to their second shutout win of the early season, defeating MT, 8-0.
On Saturday, the Lady Indians (1-0, 2-0) opened the '12 season with a 3-0 win over the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors in Sardinia, as all three HHS goals came in the second half.
"Obviously this was a good win for us, especially being the first league game of the season," HHS head coach Leslie Molen said. "We were quick scoring from the start, and I was pleased with the overall effort.
"The girls passed well, and the kids worked hard."
As for their win over MT, the Lady Indians led by six goals after the first half with the sixth goal coming with 4:27 left on the first-half clock.
The game began with Kaylynn Bell leading the charge with a goal on a cross kick by Madison Colliver with 38:55 left in the opening half.
[[In-content Ad]]Trista Rhodes followed at the 27:20 mark with a goal for the 2-0 lead. That was followed just over two minutes later with a goal from Kaylee Achor (25:18) for the three-goal advantage.
Colliver came back with a goal this time, scoring with 22:50 on the first-half clock, and teammate Allie Branscome put HHS ahead by five goals with 16:59 left in the first half.
Taylor Davis wrapped up the scoring in the first 40 minutes with a goal at the aforementioned 4:27 mark of the half.
In the second half, Taylor Stanforth added to the HHS lead by taking the ball downfield and to the back of the net with 32:12 left in the match, and the scoring was finalized with Davis' second goal of the match with 25:52 on the clock.
Assists were credited to Bell, Rhodes (2), Cheyney Myers and Taylor Moberly.
At the goal, Rachel Sexton totaled three saves for HHS.
Hillsboro will hit the road on Thursday as they travel to Fayette County to face the Washington Lady Blue Lions in SCOL play.
