Lady Indians gain rivalry win over McClain

GREENFIELD — For one half Thursday evening, the McClain Lady Tigers and Hillsboro Lady Indians played close to even on the scoreboard as HHS led by just two goals at the half. The entire outlook of the match changed in the final 40 minutes as the Lady Indians scored seven more times for a 9-0 victory at McClain Field.
The South Central Ohio League win for HHS, which improves to 4-1 overall (3-1, SCOL) was a rebound win after a loss to Clinton-Massie earlier in the week. As for Hillsboro's win at McClain, a lot was due to their defense as defensive players Taylor Stanforth and Taylor Moberly both spoke about the play of HHS at the conclusion of the match.
"We worked together, as a team, on improving our weaknesses," Moberly said.
"I agree with Taylor … this game we worked on our communication and trying to keep the ball at the top," Stanforth said.
In the aforementioned first half, the first goal of the match didn't pass a keeper until the clock read 20:51 as McClain (1-3) was charged with an own goal as a header went the wrong direction, giving HHS a 1-0 lead. HHS made it a two-goal lead with Madison Colliver placing the ball in the back of the net with 14 minutes left in the opening half on a free kick.
In the final 40 minutes, it was a more up-tempo match for the Lady Indians as Cheyney Myers made it a 3-0 score with an assist from Kaylynn Bell with 37:30 left in regulation.[[In-content Ad]]
Kaylee Achor followed that up with consecutive goals with 36:57 and 30:30 on the clock as she took the ball downfield both times for goals with assists by Colliver and Bell.
Bell scored her first of two goals with 29:10 remaining, and Lilly McCleese made it a 7-0 lead with a goal at the 18:14 mark of the match with the assist credited to Trista Rhodes.
Ashley Purtee put HHS ahead by eight goals with 3:06 left in the match, and Bell rang in the final goal with 2:26 on the clock and the nine-goal advantage.
At goal for HHS in the shutout was Rachel Sexton.
Neither team plays next week due to the Highland County Fair.
