Lady Indians fall to Miami Trace

WASHINGTON C.H. — The rebuilding season for the Hillsboro girls tennis team continued Thursday in Fayette County, as the Lady Indians dropped their match against Miami Trace 0-5 with the Lady Panthers sweeping all five courts.
The South Central Ohio League loss, at the Gardner Park courts in Washington C.H., puts the Lady Indians at 2-10 overall, as their wins have come against Clinton-Massie and Unioto. HHS has one league win this season. The win by the Lady Panthers puts them at 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the SCOL.
"We have had some tough matches lately and we've challenged the girls," MT coach Lee Layman said. "With the right focus and effort, the results will follow, and we got that (Thursday).
"All five courts have improved, and this shows the girls that if they continue to work hard, they will reap the benefits."
[[In-content Ad]]In first singles, HHS senior Jaimee Davis lost 1-6, 0-6 to Miami Trace junior Josie Cobb. In second singles, HHS senior Brandi Wooten fell in straight sets (0-6, 0-6) to MT junior Kelsey Wilson. Third singles saw HHS junior Brooke Hall fall 0-6, 1-6 to MT senior Anyllah Baker.
First doubles had HHS sophomore Lexii Sears and freshman Vanessa McGinnis fall to MT senior Deidre McKay and junior Abby Schwenk by scores of 2-6, 2-6. Second doubles had HHS sophomores Brittany Manning and Chloe Burkard fall 0-6, 3-6 to MT freshmen Bethany Reiterman and Haylee Higgins.
In a Pro-8 match (first doubles team to eight sets wins), Hillsboro's Josie Taylor and Kacy Fredrick lost 3-8 to Haley Sollars and Ryann Hawkins of MT.
"We are playing so many young players right now, plus injuries and medical issues have hurt us a lot this season," HHS coach LaRue Turner said. "This is a rebuilding year, but the girls are really working hard.
"We are looking to start the second half of the season with our entire lineup, and we are healthy again. We'll keep competing, and the girls are showing more promise with each match."
HHS will play again on Monday as they host Waverly at 5 p.m. at the HHS tennis courts in a non-league match.
