Kyler Trefz wins back-to-back SCOL middle school wrestling championships

The finale of the South Central Ohio League middle school wrestling season is the SCOL Tournament, where the league championship team and individual weight classes are determined.
Wilmington, Miami Trace and East Clinton all brought nearly full squads to the tournament, which was held at East Clinton Middle School. Wilmington won the team title, pulling away from Miami Trace in the finals.
Greenfield Middle School had the smallest squad at the tournament, but they fared well, advancing all five of their wrestlers to the final round for placement.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Kyler Trefz, who won back-to-back league titles at 160 pounds, outlasting a tough Hillsboro opponent, Workman, in the finals.
Trefz finished the regular season with an outstanding 30-1 record.
Dawson Jansen (110), a seventh grader, did very well for his first year in the sport, making the finals and finishing as runner-up.
Tanner Tite (116) defeated his East Clinton opponent twice during the season but came up on the short end in the league finals match against him, finishing as runner-up.
Quinton Smith (92) finished in third place, defeating his Wilmington opponent in the finals.
Seventh grader Phillip Waters (142) lost a match against Hillsboro in his placement match. The match went two overtime periods, and the Hillsboro opponent got one point in the 30-second ultimate tiebreaker. Waters took the fourth-place spot on the podium.
Up next for the junior high squad is postseason action, where they will work to be state qualifiers and placers in March.
