Indians take first at Franklin Invitational

It was a very successful start to the 2012 Hillsboro wrestling season Saturday as they won the Franklin Invitational to open their year.

HHS defeated nine other teams for the team win, as state-placer Kordell Ford, a junior, and senior Craig Jackson won their respective weight classes. Ford won at 152 pounds, and Jackson was a winner at 138.

Jackson received the Hillsboro wrestler of the week award.

"The team wrestled well," head coach Nathan Horne said. "It was a good start to the year."

Ryan Kelley placed second in the 120-pound class.

Dillon Hunick, Brandon Carter and Connor Johnston (who all were state qualifiers last season), along with Darian Schumacker, placed third at the Franklin Invitational.  

Matt West and Drew Huffman were fourth in their classes, and Cody Whaley placed fifth.

The next match for the Indians will take place on Friday, Dec. 21 as HHS will host Greeneview in a dual match during the school day at 1 p.m. at the HHS High School Gymnasium. On Dec. 27 and 28, HHS will wrestle at West Jefferson.
