Indians lose 4th straight, slip against Golden Eagles

HILLSBORO — For the past four games, the winning side of the scoreboard hasn't been in favor of the Hillsboro Indians. That includes Wednesday evening, as miscues on the bases and quiet bats at the plate led to a 4-3 loss to the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles at Shaffer Park.
The Indians have lost their past two South Central Ohio League games, including the aforementioned game against MP and a 16-8 loss to the London Red Raiders on Monday, putting them at 4-2 in the SCOL. This comes after starting league play with four straight wins.
Overall, the Indians stand at 6-7.
[[In-content Ad]]Against MP, the Tribe started off strong by taking the lead in the first inning, with Kyler White scoring on a ground out to the shortstop by Corey Walker.
MP answered in the second with a one-run inning, as Cole Voltz sent the ball over the fence for a home run on a 2-2 count.
As the Golden Eagles tied the game in the second, they took the lead in the top of the third with Aaron Depugh scoring a run. In the inning, Depugh reached the bases with a one-out walk, followed by a base hit by Dylan Fout. With two outs, Jeffers reached the bases on an error.
Hillsboro tied the score with a one-run third, as Brandon Wilson scored on a triple by Walker.
Though the one-run tied the score, the inning had the possibility of scoring more runs, but White was hit by the baseball while running in the base path, as he was headed to third base for the first out of the inning, which allowed Wilson to reach first base safely.
Following Walker (who was 3-for-4) reaching third on a triple, Walker was sent to steal home (with two outs) but was tagged out at the plate, ending the inning.
MP took full advantage of the base-running mishaps of the Indians, as they scored two runs in the fourth with Voltz and Paul Meier rounding the bases, as Voltz walked to start the inning. Following two consecutive outs, Meier walked, Depugh singled, Fout walked and Ryne Davis walked, leading to the two runs scored by MP.
HHS had more opportunities to score runs, but in the bottom of the fourth, the Indians left the bases loaded.
The Indians did score one last run in the bottom of the fifth with Wilson crossing home plate.
From the fifth inning until the final out was recorded, the Indians had just four more base runners, with two base hits, a walk and a hit batter, as all but one of the hits came in the fifth inning.
Besides Walker's three hits, the other two HHS hits came from Ty Crum and Seth Meyer. Crum's hit came in the second inning, and Meyer had a single in the fourth.
The loss went to Tyler Griego of HHS. Griego pitched seven innings for the Indians, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits and nine walks. For the game, he struck out 10 batters.
The win was credited to Bryce Payne of MP.
The Indians will play again on Saturday as they host Clermont Northeastern in a non-league doubleheader.
