HILLSBORO — It was the final tune-up before the 2012 high school football regular season begins as the Hillsboro Indians hosted the Paint Valley Bearcats in their annual scrimmage matchup.

In what is termed the "Fish Fry" each preseason, the Hillsboro Athletic Boosters sold their fish sandwiches and the Indians and Bearcats battled on the gridiron with Hillsboro leading the first half of the game-like scrimmage by a 6-0 score.

The lone touchdown came on the Indians' second drive of the game with 1:14 left in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Logan Lesley, who missed the '11 regular season with a broken leg, found an open Kyler White near the Paint Valley sideline. White caught the short pass and turned the corner, maneuvered around the Paint Valley defense and took the ball 25 yards to the end zone for six points for the lone touchdown of the first 24 minutes played, Friday at Richards Memorial Field.

The score was set up two plays earlier when on a third down, Lesley found Michael Sulton (a transfer from Wilmington) for a 33-yard gain and a first down.

As for the Bearcats, they had some nice defensive plays for stops near the line of scrimmage, along with a first down catch by Dallas Immell in the opening quarter on the offensive side of the ball.

Also on Friday, the McClain Tigers traveled for their final preseason scrimmage when they faced the Logan Elm Braves. Last week, the Tigers scrimmaged the Southeastern Panthers and the Wilmington Hurricane.

The regular season begins on Friday, Aug. 24 when HHS travels to face Western Brown at 7:30 p.m. As for Paint Valley, they will also begin their regular season next Friday when they travel to Belpre in a non-conference game.

McClain opens their '12 regular season on the road as well, as they are scheduled to face the Adena Warriors.
