HILLSBORO — A basket by Washington's Derek Shaw in the final moments of the South Central Ohio League game against the Hillsboro Indians not only broke a tie, but sent the Indians to a league loss Friday night, as the Blue Lions went back to Fayette County with a 58-56 win.
The SCOL second-place Blue Lions (7-2, 11-4), who trail league-leading Clinton-Massie (8-0) by two games in the league standings, scored 15 points in the fourth to take home the victory, as they outscored the host Indians (2-8, 6-9) by five points (15-10) in the final frame as HHS lost the lead in the fourth frame.
In the first, each team scored 14 points, as the Indians were led in the quarter by Jarrod Hart with seven points in the first, including a 3-pointer. Jordan Captain followed with four points in the quarter, and Zach Young of HHS also made a 3-pointer in the first frame.
Captain led the Indians with a season-high 21 points, while Hart followed with 18. Reese Leibreich and Young each added six points in the game for HHS, and Trey Moberly finished with three points.

The first-quarter Blue Lion scoring was a bit more shared, as Garrett Phipps, Christian Johnson and Shaw all connected with 3-pointers, while Conner Eckles added a free throw and Tyler Slone and Josh Williams each scored two points.
Eckles led all scorers with a game-high 22 points, followed by Shaw with 16.
In the second frame, the Indians outscored Washington, 12-7 for a halftime lead of 26-21.
The third frame saw the Blue Lions outscore the host Tribe, 20-18, with HHS still leading, 44-41.
In the third for Washington, Eckles made two 3-pointers and totaled 10 points in the frame. For HHS in the third, Hart and Captain each scored six points.
One aspect of the game that hurt the Indians was their free-throw shooting as they finished 5-of-11, with all five coming in the second half. For Washington, they were 12-of-20 from the free-throw line, making 7-of-12 attempts in the fourth quarter.
