Indians drop matches to Bethel, Chillicothe

At the end of the first week of the regular season, the Hillsboro Indian boys tennis team dropped two non-league matches on the road, being defeated by Bethel and Chillicothe.

Against Bethel on March 28, the Indians lost 1-4 as a team, with the lone victory coming in first singles when HHS junior Reese Leibreich defeated Jason Adams 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets.

Also against Bethel, for HHS Alex Rhoads lost to Jon Houchin in three sets, winning the first set 6-4 but dropping the final two at 4-6, 3-6.

In third singles, Patrick Shanahan (HHS) lost to Jared Iding, 4-6 and 0-6.

In doubles play, Christian Gunderman and Ryan Palmer (HHS) fell to Jacob Dickhaus and Ashton Hutchinson, 3-6, 1-6. In second doubles, Hillsboro's Michael Gunderman and Zach Basford lost to Zac Conrad and Adam Clements, 1-6, 3-6.

The following day, the Indians traveled to Chillicothe, falling to the Cavs, 2-3 overall as a team.

Gaining wins for HHS were Leibreich in first singles and Shanahan in third singles.

For Leibreich, his win came in straight sets against Gabe Preston at 6-2, 6-1.

Shanahan's win was 6-4, 7-5 against Noah Adams.

In other matches against Chillicothe, Rhoads lost in second singles to Mark Hirsh 3-6, 2-6. In first doubles, Christian Gunderman and Palmer lost in two sets to Noah Wright Pickarki and Stephen Gillitencle, 1-6, 5-7.

In second doubles, Hillsboro's Michael Gunderman and Basford lost 3-6, 0-2.[[In-content Ad]]
