Indians dismantle in 2nd half; fall at Miami Trace

EBER — The Hillsboro Indians' struggles after the first half haunted them again Friday night, as they lost a first-half lead in the final two quarters for a 69-57 South Central Ohio League loss.
The Indians seemed to control the first half as they scored 14 points in each of the first two quarters for a lead of 28-17, as they held MT to 10 points in the first quarter and seven points in the second.
As for the HHS first half, Jarrod Hart scored eight of his game-high 22 points, including one 3-pointer. Jordan Captain added four of his 15 points in the first frame. Also scoring points in the first was Zach Young, as he scored two points in the quarter and nine in the game.
Also for HHS, Reese Leibreich made a 3-pointer in the second and two treys in the game, finishing with eight total points, while Latrell Haithcock ended the game with three points, all off free throws in the second half.
In the second half, HHS scored 18 points in the third and 11 points in the fourth.

Then the second half for the Panthers was one full of scoring as they totaled 52 points in 16 minutes with 20 points in the third and 32 points in the fourth.
Fourteen of the MT points in the second half came from the free-throw line.
Leading MT in scoring was Austin Schoellkopf with 20 points, including three 3-pointers. He was 5-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Blake Baldwin totaled 14 points, making two 3-pointers.
Trevor Smith added 12 points, including one 3-pointer. Brantlyn Decker followed with seven points, while Jaron Burst and Brady Ward each added five points.
Scoring two points each were Jimmy Stroker, Marcel Pettiford and Cedric Pettiford.
The Indians now stand at 2-10 in the SCOL with an overall record of 6-12. MT moves to 7-5 in the SCOL and 12-6 overall.
The Indians will play again on Saturday, Feb. 2 as they will travel to face Batavia in non-league play. HHS returns home on Feb. 8 as they host Madison-Plains.
