Indians defeat Batavia, fall to Goshen

It has been a busy couple of days for the Hillsboro Indians boys basketball team, as they opened the week with back-to-back games with mixed results.
On Monday the Indians won on the road at Batavia, 52-46, but in a home make-up game on Tuesday vs. Goshen, the Indians were unable to win for the second consecutive day as they fell to their visitor, 47-46.
Both non-league results put the Indians at 8-13 overall, leaving one game left this regular season, which will take place this Friday at East Clinton. That game will also wrap up the South Central Ohio League slate of games. In SCOL play, the Indians are 3-10.
On Monday, the Indians traveled to Batavia and proceeded to leave with a six-point win for what was their second consecutive win.
The game began with the Indians scoring 12 points in the first quarter, as they led 12-8 following the first eight minutes. In that frame, Hart sank a 3-pointer and finished the quarter with seven of the 12 points. Also scoring in the quarter were Captain with three points and Zach Young with two.
Hart led the visitors with a game-high 27 points, as the senior finished with two 3-pointers and went a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
HHS outscored the Bulldogs of Batavia 9-6 in the second quarter with their nine points coming from Hart and Captain, as Captain led the quarter with five points.
BHS led the third at 18-17, but again, it was Hart leading the way for HHS as he scored 12 of the 17 points in the Indians' third, while Young followed with a 3-pointer and Captain added a two-point bucket.
Captain finished the game with 19 points, going 9-of-13 from the charity stripe, along with five field goals.
In the fourth, each team scored 14 points, with 12 of the 14 HHS points coming from the free-throw line, as HHS went 12-of-14 from the stripe in the fourth. Hart's four fourth-quarter points all were from a 4-of-4 performance from the line. Captain scored nine points in the third, going 7-of-8 at the line, while adding a two-point basket. Trey Moberly also went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line in the fourth.
For the game, HHS was 15-of-20 at the charity stripe, as the score was tied just once in the first quarter at 8-8. There were two lead changes.
BHS was led in scoring by White with 15 points and Dillon Gilbert with 14. Gilbert was 10-of-12 from the free-throw line, while White made two 3-pointers.
The Bulldogs finished 16-of-22 at the free-throw line and made four 3-pointers.

In the final eight minutes, the Indians outscored the visiting Warriors, 18-16, but were unable to gain the win.
The score read 17-14 in favor of GHS after the first quarter, and following a 6-4 second with GHS leading that frame, the Warriors led 23-18.
HHS led the third, 10-8, and the fourth by the aforementioned two-point margin.
The Indians had three players with at least 10 points on their final home game of the season, as Hart led the way with 16 points, followed by Captain with 15 and Young with 10.
