Indians conquer 9th annual McClain Invitational

GREENFIELD — Winning some races by the smallest of margins, while completely dominating other events, the Hillsboro Indians won both the boys and girls track & field meets at the 9th annual McClain Invitational on Friday at McClain Field.
The HHS boys finished with a total of 127 points, snapping the '12 home winning streak of the McClain Tigers, as MHS placed second with 107 points.
In the girls meet, the Lady Indians won with a total of 138.75 points, with Zane Trace finishing in second with 132.75 points.
The boys medalist for the event was McClain senior Luis Rivas with three first-place finishes and one second-place for 30.50 individual points. Rivas was first in the 200m dash, second in the 100m dash, first in the 400m dash and first in the 800m relay.
Michelle Snow of Circleville was the medalist for the girls meet with 26 individual points. She finished second in the 100m dash, second in the 200m dash and first in the long jump.
The HHS girls finished with six first-place finishes, and the HHS boys totaled eight first-place finishes.
In all, for the entire meet, there were 10 meet records broken in nine events.
With the girls field events, Piketon's Katie Ward won the discus throw at 102-10, while McClain's Tara Karnes was second at 102-00.
In the long jump, Snow won with a distance of 16-5.50. For MHS, Sammy Rooks was fifth at 13-6, and Megan Mustard was sixth at 13-5. For HHS, Brittney Brown was seventh at 13-0.
The girls shot put was won by Karnes at 36-2.
Abby Storts of MHS was second in the high jump at 4-8, as was Taylor Stanforth of HHS with the same height.
Leah Pence was second in the pole vault with a height of 9-0. Pence was first in the 100m hurdles with a new meet record of 15.80, breaking her own record from last year of 16.0. Allison Goolsby was third in the 100m hurdles at 17.00. In the same event, McClain's McKenzie Figgins was fifth at 17.60.
In the girls 3200m relay, HHS was second at 10:46.00, and MHS was seventh at 13:03.00.
Hannah Kibler of HHS was first in the 100m dash, setting a new meet record of 12.70 as she narrowly beat Snow, who had a time of 12.90. Brooke Smith of HHS was fifth in the race at 13.50, Taylor Faulconer of MHS was seventh at 14.00 and Lauren Howard (MHS) placed eighth at 14.80.
The Lady Indians set a new meet record in the 800m relay at 1:50.10 as the team of Megan Overberg, Autumn Hacker, Smith and Kibler raced their way past McClain, who was in second with a time of 1:54.80.
In the 1600m run, Hillsboro's Brittany Ferrell was fourth (5:46.00), and Hillsboro's Alissa Hauke was eighth at 6:17.00.
The 400m relay was won by HHS (Pence, Stanforth, Smith, Kibler) with a time of 52.60. McClain was third at 56.60.
The 400m dash record was set by Circleville's Rebekah Branham with a time of 1:00.00, followed in second by Overberg at 1:01.00. Hacker was sixth (1:07.20).
Zane Trace's Megan Jaruwannakorn set a meet record in the 300m hurdles at 47.80. Taylor Faulconer was third at 49.00, and Allison Goolsby (HHS) was fifth at 53.10. Figgins placed eighth at 56.20.
In the girls 800m race, Hannah Opst (HHS) was second at 2:27.00, and Ferrell was fourth at 2:45.00.
Kibler was first in the 200m dash at 26.90 for a new meet record, and Smith was fourth at 27.60.
The 3200m run saw a new record set by Jessica Proehl (ZT) at 11:38.00. Hauke was fifth at 13:33.00, and Bailey Patton (HHS) was seventh at 14:28.00.
HHS set a new meet record in the 1600m relay at 4:15.00 with the team consisting of Opst, Hacker, Ferrell and Overberg. MHS was seventh at 4:49.00.
As for the boys events, McClain's Preston Wagner was seventh in the discus at 125-3. In the long jump, James Morris of MHS was third (18-10.50), Jordan O'Conner (HHS) was fourth at 18-10.50 and Jordan Goble (MHS) was sixth at 18-7.

O'Conner had what was the closest finish of the entire event as he edged out McClain's Luis Rivas and Solomon Williams of Circleville by tenths of a second at 11.30 in the 100m dash. Williams was third at 11.40.
In the 800m relay, the McClain team of Dillon East, Jordan Goble, James Morris and Rivas won with a time of 1:34.60.
