Indians break out against Miami Trace

HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro Indians trailed by one run after three completed innings. That deficit didn't bother them one bit, as they came back to score 10 straight runs in the next two innings to defeat the Miami Trace Panthers, 10-1, Wednesday.
The Indians stay in the top spot in the South Central Ohio League, as they are thus far undefeated in the league with wins over Washington, Clinton-Massie, McClain and now Miami Trace to stand at 4-0 in the league and 5-3 overall as of Wednesday.
"We hit the ball well after a slow start to the game," HHS head coach Tim Hunt said. "Like I said on Monday, we are playing well, but we must continue to stay focused.
"This was another good game for us."
HHS trailed 1-0 after the first three innings were completed, garnering one walk and one hit in that span, while striking out four times in their first 10 plate appearances.
That all changed in the fourth inning as the Tribe totaled seven hits (including a two-run home run by Tyler Griego) in the next two innings, as the Indians took a nine-run lead that led to the win.
In the fourth inning, with one out, Corey Walker doubled and was followed by a base hit by Paul Snyder. After Walker tied the score at one, the ball flew off the baseball bat of Griego, landing over the left-centerfield fence, putting the Indians ahead 3-1.
The seven-run fifth inning opened with a base hit by Seth Meyer, and with one out, Kyler White doubled and was followed by Brandon Wilson reaching the bases. Walker walked, scoring Meyer, and Paul Snyder walked in White.
Griego singled in two runs with Wilson and Walker scoring on a ball hit to the outfield, and Snyder eventually scored on a base hit by Ty Crum. Meyer batted for a second time in the inning, gaining another base hit, but was left stranded on the bases.
Not only did Griego finish 2-for-3 with a walk, home run and three RBIs, but he also earned the pitching win on the mound as he threw 118 pitches in seven innings. The senior allowed one run (none earned) on three hits, two walks and two hit batters, while striking out nine batters.
"Tyler pitched well, and he settled in after the first couple innings," Hunt said. "He found his groove."
Ward was charged with the loss for MT.
For HHS, Walker, Snyder, Griego, and Meyer each had two hits. Walker was intentionally walked in the sixth inning.
The Indians play again on Thursday as they host the Adena Warriors in a non-league game at Shaffer Park, scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
