Homer Bailey tossed the 16th no-hitter in Cincinnati Reds history Tuesday evening, one walk away from perfection, in the Reds' 3-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Great American Ball Park.
Bailey is the first pitcher to be responsible for consecutive no-hitters in MLB since Nolan Ryan did it in the mid-'70s as a member of the California Angels. Ryan's consecutive no-hitters came in the 1974 and '75 seasons. Ryan finished his career with a record seven no-hitters.
Bailey's first no-hitter came on Sept. 28, 2012 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, and no pitcher had tossed another no-hitter until Bailey repeated the feat, Tuesday.
On Tuesday at GABP, Bailey's lone walk came in the top of the seventh when Gregor Blanco led off the inning with the base-on-balls.
For the game, Bailey struck out nine, improving his overall record to 5-6 on the season with a season ERA of 3.57.

The final out of the no-hitter came on a ground ball hit by Blanco to third baseman Todd Frazier, throwing it to Joey Votto at first base.
Cincinnati scored their runs with Shin-Soo Choo scoring in the first inning off a fly out by Votto, and a two-run home run in the sixth inning off the bat of Brandon Phillips on a 1-0 count.
Ryan Hanigan was the catcher for both of Bailey's no-hitters.
Besides Bailey's two no-hitters, the last no-hitter for the Reds was on June 16, 1978 when Tom Seaver no-hit the St. Louis Cardinals at Riverfront Stadium. Tom Browning tossed the only perfect game in Reds history on Sept. 16, 1988 in a 1-0 Reds win over the LA Dodgers in Cincinnati.
Bailey was the seventh overall draft pick by the Reds in '04, making his MLB debut on June 8, 2007.
