Hillsboro sweeps Miami Trace Invitational

EBER — Both the Hillsboro boys and girls track and field teams were victorious at the Miami Trace Invitational with the boys scoring 115.50 points and the girls scoring 146 points en route to sweeping the event held at Miami Trace High School.

The Indians outlasted seven other schools for their win, with Jonathan Alder finishing in second with 100 points, followed by Miami Trace (98), McClain (96.50), Waverly (95.50), Westfall (80), Washington (51) and Greeneview (26.50).

As for the Lady Indians, they outlasted second-place Washington who scored 143.66 points, followed by Jonathan Alder (110.50), Miami Trace (64.33), McClain (52), Greeneview (51), Waverly (49) and Westfall (45.50).

"It was a good team effort for both the boys and girls," Hillsboro coach Bud Marsh said. "Overall, we're (the boys team) starting to come around.

"Hopefully, we are peaking at the right time. We were competitive early (in the season), but now we're getting our best times."

In the boys events, the HHS 4x800-meter relay team was the winner (Michael Theobold, Collin Rothwell, Wyatt Gleadle, Jarrod Hart) with a time of 8:43.45.

Hart was first in the 1600m run with a time of 4:50.43, followed in second place by teammate Collin Rothwell at 4:52.33. Hart was also first in the 800m run at 2:03.86, followed in second place by teammate Gleadle at 2:10.22.

The HHS 4x100m relay team of David Abernathy, Theobold, Christian Wildey and Jordan O'Conner finished with a time of 46.05.

As for the HHS girls, first-place finishes included the 4x800m relay team (Hannah Opst, Bailey Patton, Alissa Hauke, Brittany Ferrell) with a time of 10:33.11.

Leah Pence was first in the 100m run at 16.24 and first in the pole vault at 9-00.00.

Hannah Kibler was first in the 100m dash at 13.10 and first in the 200m dash at 26.90.

Megan Overberg was first in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.78. Ferrell was first in the 800m run at 2:30.47.

As for the first-place finishes by the Tigers, in the boys events, Luis Rivas was first in the 400m dash at 51.89 and first in the 200m dash at 23.15.

Caleb Mootispaw placed first in the 3200m run at 10:25.49, and Jordan Goble was first in the long jump at 19-11.00.

As for the MHS girls, Taylor Faulconer won the 300m hurdles event with a time of 49.52.
