Hillsboro Post 129 prepares for district tournament

The Hillsboro Post 129 regular season is complete, with the team finishing at 20-21 overall, winning six of their final seven games. On Sunday, Post 129 will play their first District 7 tournament game against South Central Ohio League opponent Circleville Post 134 at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe starting at 10 a.m.
This season, Hillsboro started off slow with a 1-9 record in their first 10 games played but finished the season with 19 more wins, reaching the .500 mark for the first time in their next-to-last regular-season game. They went back to under .500 after the following day’s game, losing to Piqua.
Their final regular-season game was scheduled for this past Monday against Circleville, but due to a rainout, the winner of the game this Sunday will be awarded the league win as well, with Hillsboro standing at 10-5 in the SCOL.
This season against Circleville, the Hillsboro club was 2-1, defeating them 1-0 and 7-0. In their loss, Hillsboro fell 9-0.
This regular season, Hillsboro had two batters in Tucker Hughes and Dustin Taylor reach the .400 batting average.
Hughes, in 85 at-bats, collected 34 hits, including seven doubles, 18 runs and 14 walks. The Miami Trace graduate also compiled 12 RBIs and was hit by a pitch four times this season.
Taylor had 18 hits in 45 at-bats this season with four walks, while collecting nine runs and seven RBIs.
Cody Shaver also produced from the plate this season with a .343 batting average, with 37 hits in 108 at-bats, including 25 runs, five doubles, two home runs, 11 walks and a team-high 20 RBIs. Shaver was hit by a pitch on seven occasions this summer.
Brady Camp also batted over .300 this season. In 57 at-bats, he tallied 19 hits (five doubles, one triple, one home run), 12 runs, eight walks and 18 RBIs.
For the season, 12 Post 129 players batted over .200.
Ian Adams led the team in stolen bases with six, and Corey Walker had eight total sacrifices.
Matt Carey and Taylor led on the mound with four wins apiece. Carey was 4-1 with a 3.03 ERA in seven appearances. He pitched 39.1 innings, striking out 26 of the 183 batters he faced. Of the 22 runs allowed, 17 were earned.
Taylor went 4-3 with a 1.83 ERA in seven appearances on the hill. In 42 innings, he faced 194 batters, striking out 22. Of the 22 runs allowed, 11 were earned.
Also gaining multiple wins this season were Zach Uhl (2), Tyler Campbell (3) and Casey Jordan (3).
Uhl led Post 129 in saves with four, finishing with an ERA of 1.99.
The Post 129 pitching staff was led in strikeouts by Jordan with 33 in 10 appearances. Next in strikeouts was Hughes with 32 and Carey with 26. In fourth was Uhl with 25, followed by Dillon and Campbell, who each had 24 strikeouts on the mound.[[In-content Ad]]
