Hillsboro middle school baseball sweeps weekend games

Hillsboro junior high baseball kicked off its season with a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Fairfield Lions this past weekend, winning game one, 10-9, and game two, 18-8.

Nathan Goolsby pitched four innings in the first game, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out 10 batters.

The bats for both teams came to life in the final four innings, with 19 combined runs scored.

Jesse Walker and D.J. Brown pitched in relief for the Hillsboro seventh-grade squad, with Brown picking up the save.

In game two, Jake Deatley and Wyatt Condo teamed up for the win.

Deatley not only threw well, but was hot from the plate, getting on base in all four plate appearances and scoring four runs.

Ryan Hagan and Chris Jeter each had doubles. Jake Deatley and Chase Colliver were 2-for-2. Dylan Rhodes, Jesse Walker and Jacob Schlater each had a hit.

The Hillsboro seventh grade squad travels to Westfall this Sunday.
