For their first scrimmage of the 2014 season, the Hillsboro Indians scrimmaged the visiting Unioto Shermans at Richards Memorial Field on Tuesday in a South Central Ohio League vs. Scioto Valley Conference matchup.
The Indians' first offensive drive of the scrimmage might have been their best one of the entire event, as they went nearly 70 yards in their 10 plays, with the 10th play of Toby Warrington scrambling around the defense of the Shermans, diving just a yard or two away from the end zone.
Hillsboro's defense stepped up at times in the scrimmage as well, making some behind scrimmage tackles and open field tackles.
[[In-content Ad]]Unioto also had their good moments, including forcing a fumble and intercepting a pass in once series of the scrimmage.
The scrimmage was the first for both teams this preseason, as each still have two more remaining before the start of the 2014 regular season on Aug. 29.
Before the event, HHS head coach Matt Hodge said the summer workouts and two-a-days went well for the Indians. Hodge said the goal of the Indians is to get better each day.
Hillsboro will scrimmage at Adena on Saturday and then again on Friday, Aug. 22 in the annual "Fish Fry" event at Richards Memorial Field against the Paint Valley Bearcats.
The Indians open the season on the road at Western Brown on Friday, Aug. 29.
