Hillsboro falters to MP in 7th inning

HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro Lady Indians and Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles combined for 21 runs on Wednesday, but by the time the game was completed, it was the Lady Golden Eagles who shined the brightest, defeating the Lady Indians 12-9 at Alice Cassner Field.
Through six innings, the Lady Indians led by an 8-7 score, but Madison-Plains kicked the game into full-speed in the seventh, scoring five runs to take a four-run lead and eventually holding on in the bottom of the seventh for the South Central Ohio League win.
[[In-content Ad]]"The girls are making improvements," HHS head coach Catie Moberly said. "We won (Monday) and battled to take the lead (Wednesday), but we just couldn't hang onto the lead at the end.
"Our bats are coming alive, and we've scored 25 runs in our past two games. We just have to keep our opponents from scoring so many runs."
For MP, leading at the plate was Blosser, who was 4-for-5 with three runs, and Butts, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one walk. Moore was 2-for-3 with two walks, and Clark was 2-for-3 with one walk and one run.
Also gaining hits for MP were Putton, Meade and Grabell.
Leading at the plate for the Lady Indians was Sara Ray at 3-for-3 with two runs.
Ali Stratton was 2-for-4 with one run, and Amber Everhart was 2-for-3 with one walk and two runs. Kristen Juillerat went 1-1 with two runs and one walk. Also tallying a hit was Sara Sexton.
The first inning of scoring for the Lady Indians came in the bottom of the third, with runs by Stratton, Taylor Moberly, Juillerat and Ray, tying the score at 4-4 following a three-run first and one-run second by MP.
In the fourth, MP scored twice, but HHS responded with four runs, taking an 8-6 advantage. In the inning for HHS, Moberly, Everhart, Juillerat and Ray all rounded the bases. Stratton, Everhart (a triple) and Ray (a double) had hits in the inning.
The two-run lead didn't last for HHS, as MP scored one run in the fifth and ended the seventh with five runs.
On Monday, the Lady Indians, who are 2-4 in the SCOL, defeated the London Lady Red Raiders 16-12, scoring seven runs in the seventh inning to take home the win. At one point in the game at London, the Lady Indians trailed 6-0. HHS then lost the lead, only to regain it in top of the seventh.
HHS will play again on Saturday, as they host a doubleheader against New Richmond, starting at 10 a.m.
