Hillsboro eighth graders sweep North Adams

The Hillsboro eighth grade baseball team opened their season by sweeping the visiting North Adams Green Devils in a twin bill on Sunday.

In the first game, Nathan Goolsby and Wyatt Condo teamed up for a 3-1 win, allowing one hit, seven walks and striking out 11 Green Devils hitters in seven innings of work.

Even though the young Indians' bats were equally as quiet with just one hit by Ryan Hagan, they took advantage of miscues by North Adams to gain the 3-1 victory in the first game.

In the second game, Hillsboro's Jesse "Pudge" Walker and Dylan Rhoads combined to strike out 10, walk two and hold North Adams to just one hit and one unearned run.

The Hillsboro bats came to life in the second game, collecting seven hits in the 8-1 win. Hagan, Condo, Chase Colliver and Rhoads each singled; Walker doubled, driving in two runs; and Ethan Adkins collected two hits for the victorious Tribe.

Next week, Hillsboro will travel to Paint Valley to take on a tough Bearcats squad.

This year's team sponsors include Dr. Lesia Langston-McKenna, Terry's Pizza, Tissot's Home Center and Long's Retreat.[[In-content Ad]]
