Hillsboro continues to win in league play

HILLSBORO — Having over a week off didn't matter much to the Hillsboro Lady Indians, as they easily defeated the Madison-Plains Lady Golden Eagles, 10-1 Tuesday.
The win at Richards Memorial Field allowed the Lady Indians to move to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the South Central Ohio League as they trail the first-place Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons by one game in the standings.
Hillsboro didn't look like a team that just had 11 days off from game action as they led 4-0 after the conclusion of the first half.
"Fair week is always different because kids are all doing different stuff, so it changes the schedule quite a bit," HHS coach Leslie Molen said. "Sometimes it is hard to get all the kids together at once, and once that Monday gets here, the kids are tired.
"We started slow (Tuesday) but came back and played our game."
The opening half scoring began with Cheyney Myers scoring five minutes into the match for the 1-0 lead.
The score soon went to a two-goal advantage with Kaylee Achor scoring the first of three goals (on a header) of her hat-trick with 27:00 on the clock with the assist by Madison Colliver.
Colliver added to the HHS advantage with a goal with 11:54 on the clock with the asset by Mallory Sluss. The fourth goal was from Marcy Grooms off a corner kick by Achor for the assist.

Then the second half began, and from there, HHS outscored the visiting Lady Golden Eagles, 6-1.
Achor began the second half with a goal with 35:13 left in the league match, as the assist was credited to Taylor Stanforth. Sluss scored a goal with 34:10 left in regulation with the assist by Myers for a six-goal lead.
MP scored their lone goal on a penalty kick with 30:00 on the clock, but that was answered with a third-goal by Achor, leaving 27:35 in the game.
The final three HHS goals were by Trista Rhodes (assist Kaylynn Bell), Jaylyn Yochum (assist Sluss) and Taylor Moberly (assist Yochum).
"These are the type of games where we work on making us a better team," Molen said. "We've worked on our finishing, crossing, headers and corner kicks. We're also working on keeping possession. We want to be creating opportunities, rather than forcing them."
HHS will play again on Tuesday, Sept. 18 as they host the Washington Lady Blue Lions in SCOL play.
