Headed to State: Leibreich advances to state tennis tournament

ATHENS — Hillsboro junior Reese Leibreich is headed to the 2012 OHSAA State Championships in tennis, as he went 2-1 in the combined East and Southeast Division II Boys Tennis District tournament on Saturday at Ohio University in Athens.
Leibreich was the No. 2 seed in the SE District, with a first-round bye. In his first match, the junior won over Hiland sophomore Braxton Mullet 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals.
[[In-content Ad]]In the semifinal match (championship round), Leibreich defeated East District No. 1 seed Danny Nelson, a junior from West Holmes, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to advance to the seed round, as the win gave Leibreich one of the two spots in the state tournament.
In what was called the seed round for the state tournament, Leibreich lost in straight sets at 6-4, 6-0 to East No. 2 seed Aaron Ruby, a junior from Cambridge High School.
Both the East and Southeast No. 2 seeds advanced to the state tournament.
The district tournament consisted of 12 players. The state tournament will take place on Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26 at the Ohio State University Outdoor Varsity Tennis Courts in Columbus. If there is rain, the event will take place at Elysium Indoor Tennis Center in Plain City.
