Hannah Binkley tosses no-hitter in LC win over Ripley

DODSONVILLE — Just one player reached the bases for the Ripley Lady Blue Jays Monday evening, and that was due to the pitching of Lynchburg-Clay freshman Hannah Binkley, who tossed her first career varsity no-hitter.
The no-hitter by the freshman ace came with a 13-0 five-inning run-rule win by LC, moving them to 10-12 overall this season.
"This was a good bounce-back win for the girls after the two losses over the weekend," LC head coach Spring Roberts said. "Hannah pitched a fabulous game. She battled her way out of some 3-0 counts and got the job done.
"I'm proud of how she pitched and how the girls played (Monday)."
For Binkley and the Lady Mustangs, the only base runner to take a base by RHS came in the second inning, and that was on an infield error with two outs.
The rest of the game was all LC, either with their offense, defense or pitching.
Binkley retired the first five batters she faced, with three ground outs in the first inning, followed up by two fly ball outs in the second inning, along with a comebacker to the pitcher for out three.
In the third, Binkley struck out the first two batters she faced and ended the inning with a groundout to first base.
The fourth was more of the same with two ground ball outs and a swinging strikeout to end the inning. In the final inning, it went ground out, fly out and ground out to complete the no-hitter.
Only one fly ball out was caught by infielders.
Now for the hitting of the LC squad, who tallied nine hits.
LC began their scoring barrage with a six-run first, an inning where they sent 12 batters to the plate. Scoring runs in the inning were Lexi Waits, Megan Pointer, Madysyn Creighton, Binkley, Chelsi Hacker and Nikki Jones.
The second inning saw LC add five more runs to the home side of the scoreboard with Creighton, Binkley, Hacker, Jones and Brittany Allen all crossing home plate.
Jones finished 3-for-3 with two runs.
LC added one more run in each of the third and fourth innings with Creighton scoring her third run in the third inning and Allen scoring lucky run 13 in the fourth.
Also in the game, Creighton unofficially obtained her 45th stolen base of the season. Creighton had a double, single and scored three runs in the win.
Over the weekend LC lost two games to Huntington, falling by scores of 6-5 and 9-2.
