GREENFIELD - McClain senior Kate Hammond scored her 1,000th point Thursday night at McClain High School against South Central Ohio League rival Miami Trace.
Hammond, who has started all four years for the Lady Tigers, scored her 1,000th point in the second quarter, as the game was stopped with 5:48 remaining in the quarter. The senior was given the game ball by McClain head coach Dennis Overstake after the basket, which were scored with a jump shot.
"I was excited to score the 1,000 points. I had a lot on my mind and it was nice to get them at home, against Miami Trace," Hammond said. "Our team played well and we played well as a team."
Hammond finished the 54-49 SCOL win over the Panthers with a game-high 18 points. The four-year varsity starter sank one 3-pointer and made seven field goals. She was 1 of 2 from the free-throw line.
"Kate scored her points within the framework of our offense," Overstake said. "She was patient and deserves this honor."
Hammond is the fourth Lady Tiger to gain 1,000 points. The previous three MHS players to gain 1,000 points include: Audra (Cook) Bolender, Sarah Hull and Elizabeth (Liz) Cockerill.
