Before coming to UC Clermont, Hamer helped start the volleyball program at Cincinnati State in 2013 and was the assistant coach for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Hamer's career also includes coaching Junior Olympic Club Volleyball for the past six years and has taken several teams to compete in national tournaments. He is currently the 16-1 head coach at Midwest Xtreme Volleyball Club. He also serves as a lead coach at the club, where he oversees all teams ages 15 and is also the club’s college recruitment coordinator - helping players at the club get recruited to play college volleyball.

Hamer replaces Joe Harpring, who retired after 14 years and as the Clermont College head volleyball coach, where he compiled a 203-85 record during his tenure.
