The Greenfield Attack Wrestling Club competed in two different events on Saturday, March 24. Three wrestlers earned their right to compete in the Ourway State Wrestling Championships held at the Nutter Center in Fairborn.
Roscoe East led the GAWC by going 2-2 at the event and earned all-state status by placing third in Division 7 at the 173-pound weight class, as East is a junior at McClain High School.
In round one, East defeated Danny Watson of Upper Arlington 8-5. In round two, he lost to the eventual state champion, Brandon Taylor, of Gallipolis by a major decision, 9-0. Taylor placed third at this year's OHSAA Division II State Championships.
In round three, East defeated Ryan Gaffnet of Sycamore, 4-2. In round four, East lost the eventual runner-up, Tate Ankney of Aversville, 4-0.
Brendon Goble also brought home an all-state plaque for the GAWC by finishing in eighth place in Division 6 at 189 pounds.
Goble is a freshman at McClain High School. In round one, Goble pinned Jesus Lucero of Lakota. In round two, eventual runner-up Anthony McLaughlin of St. Ignatius defeated Goble by a major decision, 8-0.
This put Goble into the second round of the consolation bracket, as his opponent would be from the SCOL, Skylar Marine from Clinton-Massie. Goble won this match by a technical fall, 16-0. That victory guaranteed all-state status.
In the next round, he faced Zachary Wheeler from Port Clinton. Wheeler showed great power and speed and won by a pin. This put Goble into his placement match against Chase Wahoff from Fairfield. Wahoff won this match, 4-2.
Jake Badgley earned his state qualification by placing third in the Nelsonville-York regional tournament, as the top four qualified.
[[In-content Ad]]Badgley is an eighth grader at Greenfield Middle School. In round one at the state tournament, Badgley's opponent was Christian Peters from Oregon Clay. Badgley had two very strong pinning combinations locked up in the last 30 seconds of the match, and as he attempted to turn his opponent, the referee called both holds potentially dangerous, thus restarting the match both times and nullifying his holds. Badgley lost this match, 5-2.
In the first round of the consolation bracket, Badgley received a bye. In the next round, he faced Danny Cromleigh from Strongsville, as the winner of this match would be guaranteed all-state status. Cromleigh won this match 6-0, ending Badgley's tournament at 0-2.
Four members of the GAWC competed in the Paint Valley Youth Tournament the same day. Leading the way for the youth squad was Quinton Smith, winning his weight class. Finishing second were Courtney Walker and Justin Kegley. Vincent Snyder finished in fourth place.

The team fared well, as they had two champions and a runner-up. Their two champions were Quinton Smith and Keegan Rawlins. Justin Kegley was the runner-up.
