Great all-around day leads to 4th-place OAC Championship finish for Wilmington College men’s track & field
The Wilmington College men’s track & field team finished day two of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Track & Field Championships in fourth place with 114 total points. This is Wilmington’s best finish outdoors since taking third place during the 2022 season.
Simon Heys competed in both the 1500 Meter Run and 5000 Meter Run for the Quakers on Friday and scored 14 total points between the two events. He took third in the 1500 at 3:53.91, just behind Baldwin Wallace University’s Sam Sikorski, who was second at 3:53.17.
Heys finished just behind his teammate Noah Tobin in the 5000 Meter Run, running a time of 14:36.32 while Tobin finished in an outdoor best 5000 Meter time of 14:35.96. This is Heys’ first 1500 Meter Run All-Conference performance and the fourth of his career in the 5000. This is Tobin’s first All-Conference performance in the 5000 Meter Run.
These performances led to Heys and Tobin being named Co-Winners of the Jim Wuske Most Outstanding Distance Runner award. Heys also won the 10,000 Meter Run Friday night, while Tobin took home the 3000 Meter Steeplechase crown Saturday afternoon. Heys was also named Most Outstanding Distance Runner at last year’s OAC Outdoor Championships.
In the Weight Throw, the Quakers scored 23 points. JJ Durr won with an OAC-record mark of 62.72m to tie the best mark of his career. This came on his fourth attempt. Nathen Borgan took second at 61.14m on his final throw for eight points while Justin Shuga was fourth with a career-best mark of 57.06m.
For Durr, this is his third OAC Championship in the event and fourth All-Conference performance. Borgan earns All-Conference honors in the hammer for the third time in his Quakers career.
The Quakers 4x100 Meter Relay team of Logan Kent, De’Anta Sanon, Donovan Mosley and Mack Tillman took second place for eight points with a season-best time of 42.17 seconds. The 4x400 Meter Relay team of Mosley, Brendan Bornemann, Keegan Kidd and Sanon scored six points with a third-place finish and a season best time of 3:19.80.
Sanon also added to his career day in the 100 Meter Dash, finished in third place with a time of 10.85 seconds for the first All-OAC honor of his career.
Asher LeBeau was the final Quaker to score points, taking sixth in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a career best time of 57.14 seconds.
Wilmington heads to Berea, Ohio Friday for the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet.
