Girls Basketball: Miami Trace receives points in first AP rankings

The Associated Press released the first girls high school basketball polls on Wednesday, Jan. 12, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association's (OHSAA) website.
In the girls polls, the No.1 ranked teams for each division were: Canton McKinley (Div. I), Dayton Carroll (Div. II), Akron Manchester (Div. III) and Canal Winchester Harvest Prep (Div. IV).
In Division II, the same division as McClain and Hillsboro, Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown trails Dayton Carroll. DC has a 9-0 record as they received 12 first-place votes. SHHB gained 11 first-place votes with a 7-3 mark. DC tallied 194 points in the vote, with SHHB earning 182.
Third in Division II was Cincinnati Indian Hill with one first-place vote (7-1), tallying 143 points in the vote. The remaining teams in the Top 10 included: Millersburg West Holmes, Aurora (1), Ravenna (2), Kettering Archbishop Alter, Bellbrook, Tipp City Tippecanoe and Lima Bath.
The South Central Ohio League-leading, and defending seven-time champion Miami Trace Lady Panthers, who are 11-0 overall, received 12 or more points in the vote.
n Division III, the same division the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs play in, Akron Manchester received eight first-place votes with an 11-0 record. The second ranked team is Elyria Catholic, who gained three first-place votes, also with an 11-0 mark. Oak Hill is third in the rankings with four first-place votes and 151 points. In fourth was Findlay Liberty-Benton (7-2), who gained seven first-place votes with 117 points in the vote. The remaining teams in the Top 10 included: Defiance Tinora, Millbury Lake, Columbus Africentric Early College, Middletown Madison, Anna (1) and Genoa (1).
The Division IV first week rankings are led by Canal Winchester Harvest Prep with 19 first-place votes and 216 points in the vote. Division IV is the same division the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats and Fairfield Lady Lions play in.
Standing in second-place in the D IV rankings is Minster with two first-place votes. They've tallied 174 points in the vote. The remaining Top 10 teams include: Berlin Hiland, Bucyrus Wynford, Arlington (1), Haviland Wayne Trace (1), Ottoville, New Madison Tri-Village (1), Kirtland and Delphos Jefferson (1).
