CHILLICOTHE — The four-game winning streak of Hillsboro Post 129 was snapped Wednesday evening at Mary Lou Patton Park, in Chillicothe. The Hillsboro squad was unable to battle back from a five-run fifth inning by Post 757 in an 11-4 loss.
The Hillsboro run production was limited with one run scored in the first four innings, forcing them to play catch up, as Post 757 scored six runs in the same span.
But the final nail was hammered in the fifth with the aforementioned five runs scored by the home team.
Hillsboro scored runs in the first, fifth, sixth and seventh innings for their four-run total. One per inning.
In the first Post 129 started off with three straight singles, but leadoff hitter Logan Wise was caught stealing at second, as he gained the first hit of the game.
Brandon Arehart gained a base hit, with a 3-1 count, scoring the lone Hillsboro run of the inning. Airic Steagall also had a single in the first, on a hitters count of 2-0.
Hillsboro added a second run to its total in the fifth inning.
Cody Shaver walked to start the fifth, but was out on second via fielders choice. The fielders choice allowed Brandon Carrington to reach safely at first. Carrington stole second and with two outs Wise walked on four straight pitches.
With two runners on the bases, Arehart singled in Carrington.
In the sixth Zach Uhl singled with one out, stole second base and scored on a two-out double by Brett Carrington.
The final Post 129 run came in the top of the seventh inning with Brandon Carrington starting the inning with a walk. Matt Kibler hit into a fielders choice. With two outs, Arehart knocked in Kibler with a double.
Chillicothe Post 757 scored two runs per inning during the first, second and fourth innings. They were held scoreless in the third and sixth innings.
Arehart led Hillsboro with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, scoring one run and tallying two RBIs.
Wise, Steagall, Uhl, Brett Carrington and Kibler all had one hit. Wise had a sacrifice and one walk, while Uhl collected one steal and scored once.
