First quarter deficit too much for Lions to overcome

A very tough first quarter where the Fairfield Lions made one shot from the field led to a deficit that was just too much to overcome as they fell to the Eastern Brown Warriors, 58-47 Friday night at EBHS in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference matchup.
The Lions' first-quarter deficit was a 17-5 score as their lone field goal was a 3-pointer from Quentin Williams. FHS was 1-of-14 from the field in the quarter.
"We got behind in the first, outscored them the next two quarters and cut their lead in the fourth, but they pulled away at the end," Fairfield head coach Everett Snyder said. "We tried to get the ball in the fourth, but they were 4-of-6 from the free-throw line in the fourth."
From there, though, the Lions (2-4) outscored EB 19-14 in the second and 12-8 in the third. At the half, EB led 31-24, and after three quarters, the Warriors led 39-36.
In the fourth, EB added to their lead by a score of 19-11. In the fourth, the Lions did cut the lead to three points on a couple occasions but could never overtake the lead.

Williams led FHS with a double as he totaled a team-high in scoring with 13 points and added 10 rebounds. Williams made three 3-pointers.
Gage Montgomery also added a double-double as he scored 11 points (one 3-pointer) and grabbed 11 rebounds. He also added five steals as coach Snyder spoke about the defense of Montgomery.
"Gage did a great job of covering Chase Lawson (one of Eastern's better players)," Snyder said. "Gage and Quentin held him to single-digit scoring.
"Gage didn't let him drive to the hoop."
Joey Wilson also added 11 points, while the scoring was rounded out by Cody Bennett with five points (one 3-pointer), Elijah Carmean with five (one 3-pointer) and Ryan Bates with two.
The Lions totaled 27 team rebounds and were 7-of-9.
Leading Eastern in scoring were Nathan Scott with a game-high 17 points and Riley Cline with 13 points.
Eastern totaled 22 rebounds.
The Lions have three games this week as they will host the Whiteoak Wildcats on Tuesday, host Zane Trace on Friday and on Saturday play at Hillsboro High School as they will take on the Washington Blue Lions in the SHAC vs. SCOL Challenge.
