The 2011 American Legion Post 129 baseball season has come and gone. They played a total of 42 games, finishing with a record of 21-23 (two rainout wins), with a league record of 10-6.
In the District 7 tournament, they finished 1-2.
Including the postseason, Tucker Hughes was the batting champion with a .407 average. The Miami Trace graduate had 91 at-bats with 37 hits, including seven doubles. He scored 19 runs, had two steals and had two sacrifices. Hughes was hit by a pitch four times and was tied for a team-high 15 walks with Bryce Bean.
Hughes struck out just 11 times and had 13 RBIs.
Cody Shaver, Taylor and Brady Camp all finished with batting averages over .300. Taylor batted .386 with 22 hits (one double) and 12 runs. He finished with two steals and five walks and struck out just twice. Taylor finished with eight RBIs.
Shaver batted .325 with a team-high 21 RBIs and walked 11 times. The Wilmington grad had two home runs and 38 total hits, including the home runs and five doubles. He was hit by a pitch seven times in 117 at-bats, scoring 25 runs.
Camp finished with a .314 average with 19 RBIs and eight walks in 70 at-bats. He scored 13 runs, with 22 hits (five doubles, one triple, one home run) with one steal and one sacrifice. Camp struck out just eight times.
In 99 at-bats, Bryce Bean batted .242 with 13 RBIs, 15 walks and six sacrifices and was hit by a pitch three times. Bean scored 20 runs off 24 hits (four doubles) with three stolen bases.
Corey Walker had the most at-bats with 120, while having nine sacrifices and three steals. He scored 19 runs and compiled 30 hits (two doubles, two triples). He walked five times, was hit by a pitch three times and collected six RBIs. Batting second in the lineup, he wrapped up the summer batting .250.
Nathaniel Miller finished with 12 hits (four walks) and five RBIs. Tyler Campbell totaled 11 RBIs, 17 hits (two doubles), five runs, four sacrifices and one home run.
Lead-off hitter Ian Adams had 115 at-bats with a .287 average. Adams scored 25 runs, with 33 hits (eight doubles, one triple) and six stolen bases. Adams had five sacrifices and walked eight times to go with his 12 RBIs.
Zach Uhl totaled 19 hits (three doubles) with nine walks and 12 RBIs. Jacob Dillon had 13 hits (four doubles) with nine walks and five RBIs. Taylor Smucker finished the season with 14 hits, 11 walks and three RBIs. Brandon Carter scored a run and had two RBIs. Stephen Pappas finished with 10 hits (one double) with four walks and six RBIs. Luke Meyer had seven hits and three RBIs, while scoring four runs. Matt Carey finished with seven runs and eight hits.
Overall as a team, Post 129 had 1,182 at-bats with 183 runs, 313 hits (42 doubles, four triples, four home runs), 21 steals, 46 sacrifices and 121 walks. Hillsboro batters were hit by a pitch 34 times and struck out 230 times. They batted in 142 runs and finished with a team batting average of .265.
Carey and Taylor won the most games with four wins each from the mound.
Carey finished 4-2 with a 3.09 ERA. He pitched 45 1-3 innings in eight appearances. Facing 213 batters, he struck out 29 and walked 31. Carey gave up 39 hits and 26 runs (20 earned). He hit just two batters all season.
Taylor, a McClain graduate, finished with a 1.83 ERA, making seven appearances this summer. Taylor pitched 42 innings, and against 194 batters he struck out 22 and walked 30. Taylor gave up 30 hits and 22 runs (11 earned).
Campbell also finished with an ERA of .181, with an overall record of 3-3. Campbell (Fairfield) made eight appearances, pitching 38 2-3 innings. Campbell faced 177 batters, striking out 26 and walking 17. Campbell allowed 32 hits and 24 runs (10 earned).
Uhl finished with a 1.81 ERA in 19 1-3 innings, gaining four saves. He was 3-1 on the season allowing 11 runs (five earned) on nine hits and 21 walks. Facing 88 batters, Uhl struck out 26.
Casey Jordan earned three wins this summer, going 3-4 overall. The Fairfield graduate pitched 42 innings, finishing with a team-high 37 strikeouts. He finished with a 3.83 ERA.
Dillon also gained 20-plus strikeouts this season with 26 and Miller had one save for the Post 129 team.
The pitching staff as a unit went 19-23 with an ERA of 3.54. They hit 20 batters, and allowed 255 runs (152 earned), with 200 walks and 216 strikeouts. They faced 1,463 batters and pitched a total of 300 1-3 innings.[[In-content Ad]]
