Falcons continue SCOL win streak; top Tigers

GREENFIELD — The Clinton-Massie Falcons visited McClain Field and continued their dominance of the South Central Ohio League, defeating the McClain Tigers 66-0, Friday.
The Falcons (1-0, 4-0) now have won 26 consecutive SCOL games, dating back to Week 9 of the 2007 season. In their time in the league, CM has outscored their opponents over triple than what they allowed, winning five outright league titles and sharing one in '07.
MHS falls to 2-2 overall (0-1, SCOL) with two consecutive losses.
CM began their path to their seventh league crown Friday by scoring 26 points in the opening quarter, and from there, the Falcons did what they've done all season long … control the tempo of the game, this time using not only their rushing attack, but their passing game as Tyler Uetrecht finished 8-of-9 for 146 yards and three passing TDs.
CM totaled 525 total offensive yards, while the Tigers finished with -1 yard offensively. Of their 500-plus yards offensively, CM totaled 379 yards rushing on 22 carries.
"Our kids fought tonight, didn't quit and I'm proud of their effort. It was much better than last week," McClain head coach Randy Closson said. "We played hard, but Clinton-Massie … they are very, very good. Their speed is impressive, and it's just not their skill kid speed.
"Their defense and offensive lines are fast, the linebackers … every position, they are athletic and fast. They are a handful up front as we struggled to get things going. Their defensive line and linebackers really disrupted what we wanted to do offensively."
The league opener began quickly for the Falcons as they led by 40 points at the half, as they scored a touchdown on their first six offensive possessions.
"The people of Clinton-Massie should be very proud of their football team," Closson said. "They are very good, and the people of Greenfield got to see one of the finest teams in the state of Ohio in Clinton-Massie.
"They are as athletic of a team as I've seen in a long, long time."
The first score took four plays, totaling 44 yards with Wyatt Running (five carries for 76 yards) racing his way to the end zone 15 yards with 10:23 on the first-quarter clock. The PAT by Callum Jones put CM ahead 7-0.
From there, CM scored again with 7:13 left in the opening quarter as Uetrecht scored on a 1-yard run on a drive that totaled 41 yards. The PAT made it a 14-0 score. The CM quarterback rushed for 72 yards total.

A second three-and-out by MHS led to another CM score as it took two plays to score their third TD when Bayle Wolf caught a 28-yard catch in the middle of the field for a score. In the two-play drive, Wolf totaled all 51 yards as he had a 23-yard run on the first play, leaving 5:19 on the first-quarter clock. Wolf also totaled 54 yards rushing on seven carries.
The CM lead moved to 26 points when on another two-play drive, the Falcons scored on a 12-yard run by Wolf with 1:35 remaining in the opening quarter. The drive totaled 33 yards as Trent Smart had a 21-yard reception.
In the second quarter, CM had a three-play drive that ended in the end zone as it began with a Uetrecht run of 76 yards to the MHS 11-yard line. J.D. Curtsinger finished the drive with an 11-yard catch to pay dirt, spinning to miss a tackle for six points with 9:55 left in the half. Curtsinger totaled 85 yards receiving and 48 yards rushing.
CM added another TD with 4:41 left in the first half as Curtsinger caught a 27-yard pass for his second consecutive TD and a score of 40-0.
The Falcons added 26 points in the second half, beginning with an 83-yard punt return by Curtsinger, his third score of the game and a lead of 46 points. In two punt returns, Curtsinger totaled 105 yards.
The 52nd point came in the third as CM relaxed their starting lineup with their reserves with Jared Halley racing 22 yards for a score.
Chayse Wolf ran for a 71-yard score for the Falcons, and the final score came with from a TD run by Zach Mineer.
As for the Tigers, they were led in rushing by Roscoe East, who battled his way for 31 yards rushing, being the only MHS player to rush for positive yardage. Jordan Goble totaled three receptions, while East and Isaac Savage each had one reception. Thomas Schrader completed five passes. East also recovered a fumble.
MHS will travel to face East Clinton next week in their first meeting as SCOL counterparts. On Friday, EC lost 46-41 to the Washington Blue Lions (1-0, 2-2), dropping to 0-1 in the SCOL and 1-3 overall this season.
The Falcons will host Madison-Plains next Friday, who moved to 4-0 overall as they defeated the Hillsboro Indians (0-1, 0-4) 42-12.
