Fairfield moves to 6-0 in SHL, run-rule NA

LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lady Lions continued their dominance of Southern Hills League opponents, decisively defeating the North Adams Lady Green Devils, 15-0.  

Fairfield used veteran leadership and some youth in the circle, with senior pitching ace Lauren Larrick and freshman Arica Melson combining for the shutout victory.

The Lady Lion offense was again impressive, pounding out 12 hits including three home runs by Whitney Hanenkrat, Cynnamon Sova-Davy and Courtney Huff.

After Lauren Larrick put down the visiting Lady Devils in order in the top of the first inning, the Lady Lions scored 10 runs in the bottom of the inning on nine hits, all but sealing the win after the first inning.

Huff had an RBI single; Shelby Smithson, a single and an RBI double; and Hanenkrat blasted a home run over the left-field fence with a runner on base.

Larrick had two singles in the inning, and Sova-Davy singled. Cheyenne Allen followed with a single to drive in two runs, and Kaitlin Evans, a single to drive in a run.

The Fairfield Lady Lions (7-5, 6-0 SHL) scored three more runs in the bottom of the second inning on two swings of the bat. Sova-Davy blasted her first home run of the year, a solo shot over the left-field fence, and Huff hit her third home run of the year with a runner on base.

FHS finished their scoring in the bottom of the third inning.


[[In-content Ad]]Larrick singled in the inning, Justice Hattan drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in a run and Kaitlin Evans drove in a run on a ground ball.

Larrick gave way to Arica Melson on the mound in the top of the fourth inning.  

North Adams (2-6, 2-6 SHL) put together two hits in the inning to mound a threat to score, but Melson regrouped to record a ground ball out and a strikeout to end the inning. Melson finished the game to preserve the shutout in the top of the fifth inning.
 
FHS was led at the plate by: Larrick (3-for-3, two runs), Huff (2-for-3, home run, three runs, three RBIs), Smithson (2-for-4, double, two runs, one RBI), Hanenkrat (1-for-3, one run, two RBIs), Sova-Davy (2-for- 2, home run, two runs, one RBI), Allen (1-for-2, two runs, two RBIs) and Evans (1-for-3, one run, two RBIs).             

Larrick (7-4) pitched well to earn the victory for the Lady Lions, and Arica Melson (0-1-1) was credited with a save.  

The senior hurler pitched three innings, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks; while striking out four.

Melson pitched two innings of relief. Melson allowed no runs on two hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Kylie Branch (2-6) suffered the loss for North Adams.  

The home stand continues as the Fairfield Lady Lions face Southern Hills League opponent the Ripley Lady Blue Jays on Friday.
