Eight-run inning gives Mustangs sweep over Blue Jays

    RIPLEY - In their pursuit of a perfect Southern Hills League record the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs put their mark on the league with a 19-5 win over the Ripley Blue Jays earlier this week at RHS.
    LC scored early and often with all 19 runs coming in just five innings.
    To start the SHL game LC scored three runs for the early lead.
    Recording two outs in the first two at-bats, LC reached the bases first with a walk by Cody Roush. Ray Doss followed with another two-out walk and the bases were emptied with a three-run blast over the fence by Ryan Doss for the 3-0 lead.
    In the second inning, LC added eight runs for 11 total in two innings.
    Dakota Dye started with a double and Dalton Cox was forced to first with a walk. Austin Fawley reached on an error, loading the bases.
    The bases cleared with one swing of the bat when Roush smashed a grand slam over the left-centerfield fence to add four runs to the Mustangs' lead.
    After the first out was recorded, Ryan Doss took first on a walk. Dallas Puckett rushed to first on a single to left field. Wes Pierson brought both runners home with a base hit.
    Dye reached the bases again in the inning, scoring his second run with a triple, taking home on an error.
    After the eight-run inning was finished by LC, they weren't finished, as they scored four runs in the third inning.
    Scoring runs were Ryan Doss, Puckett, Pierson and Brad Barger. Barger knocked in two runs with a double. Dye also doubled in the inning.
    LC still wasn't finished, adding three more runs to the scoreboard in the fourth. Scoring were Roush, Ray Doss and Ryan Doss.    
    The final LC run was scored in the fifth with Fawley crossing home plate.
    For LC, Roush was 2-for-3 with three runs and five RBIs. Ryan Doss was 2-for-4 with four runs and three RBIs. Puckett went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Pierson gained three RBIs. Dye finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Barger had two RBIs.
    The pitching win was credited to Dye. He went 2 2-3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six walks and two hits. Dye collected two strikeouts.
    RHS scored all five of its runs in the third inning.
