Dayton’s Drew VanVleet named to STATS FCS Jerry Rice Award watch list

University of Dayton redshirt freshman quarterback Drew VanVleet has been named a finalist for the 2024 STATS Perform Jerry Rice Award. The Rice Award honors the national freshman of the year in Division I FCS college football.
At the time of the nomination, the QB from Richmond, Ind. had completed 104-of-157 passes (.662) for 1,229 yards, with 15 touchdowns against four interceptions. He led the Pioneer Football League in passing efficiency (158.43) and passing TDs.
VanVleet was the top-ranked freshman in FCS football in passing efficiency (11th overall) and completion percentage (23rd overall) at the time the announcement was made.
Earlier this season at Marist, he was 25-of-35 passing for 323 yards and five touchdowns. Following that game, he was named the Stats Perform National FCS Freshman of the Week.
