Davis gains 20th win of season; Tigers sweep tri-match

LEES CREEK — The McClain varsity wrestling team competed in a tri-match against Cincinnati North College Hill and the host team, the East Clinton Astros. The Tigers would compete in the second and third rounds, sweeping the event on Thursday.
MHS won against NCH 48-30 and defeated EC 45-27.
Individually, McClain had seven wrestlers that won both of their matches: Coty Barnhart (132), Isaac Savage (145), Cody Black (152), Joe Unger (160), Jake Branham (195), Gary Ryan (220) and Brandon Davis (285).
Davis is McClain's first wrestler of the season to eclipse the 20-win plateau. He is currently 20-3 overall.
Ethan Paul (138) and Roscoe East (170) both went 1-1 on the night.
The Tigers (9-6) wrestled in the second and third rounds. In the second round, McClain took to the mats against the Trojans of NCH. NCH soundly defeated the Astros in round one, but the Trojans would find things a bit more difficult this round, as the Tigers came out on top in this matchup by a score of 48-30.
In the final round of the night, the Astros, who are joining the South Central Ohio League next season, and the Tigers battled, as McClain swept the tri-match with a 45-27 final.
The Tigers now stands at 9-6 on the year.
Up next is an SCOL tri-match against Washington and host Hillsboro on Thursday, Jan. 5. The JV and middle school teams will also be competing that night.[[In-content Ad]]
