Hillsboro High School graduate and Southern State Community College alumnus Tirrell Cumberland recently wrapped up a very successful college basketball career, with his Ohio Christian University team finishing third-place in the nation in the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Cumberland was voted a first-team NCCAA All-American. At SSCC, Cumberland was also named an All-American.

Earlier this season, Cumberland scored his 1,000th point for the OCU Trailblazers. In his two years at SSCC, as well as in his high school career, Cumberland was also a 1,000-point scorer.

During the regular season, Cumberland was 24th in Division II of the NCCAA in free-throw shooting at 79.6 percent, going 74-of-93 in 31 games. He was also eighth in the nation in steals with 79 (2.5 spg).

Described as a "magical season" by the OCU athletic website, OCU finished with a 27-10 overall record, including a 2012 OCAC tournament championship.

OCU was undefeated in the Mid-East Region at 12-0, along with winning the Mid-East Region championship and appearing in the '12 NCCAA Final Four. The third-place finish, coming on a 79-65 win over Central Bible College, gave them their highest finish in the program's history.

In the NCCAA tournament, OCU defeated Trinity Bible College 91-69, lost to Grace Bible College 66-46 and defeated Central Bible College 79-65.[[In-content Ad]]
