Hillsboro High School senior Tyrand Cumberland signed a letter Friday, May 18 to play basketball with Ohio University-Chillicothe this winter.

OUC coach Rick Uhrig spoke of Cumberland's work ethic.

"We want good people with a good work ethic who can play the game," Uhrig said. "I expect him to come in and get a lot of minutes. We play about 35 games a year. It may be a little bit of a shock playing at that level, but I don't think it will be too much of a shock for him."

Uhrig said that he spent time talking to Cumberland's coaches.

"Basketball fans can see the talent a player has, but it's those intangible things that a coach sees that we're looking for in a well-rounded player," he said.

Cumberland was All-SCOL in basketball, and was a member of the back-to-back South Central Ohio League champion Hillsboro Indian basketball team the past two seasons, including the outright championship this past winter.[[In-content Ad]]
