Boys Basketball: Indians, Tigers play in SCOL Preview at MTHS

EBER — The 2011-12 South Central Ohio League boys basketball preview took place on Friday night at Miami Trace High School with six SCOL schools, along with East Clinton, for seven total quarters of basketball.
Clinton-Massie was unable to attend as their school is still taking part in the high school football playoffs. CM is scheduled to open their regular season on Dec. 3 at Little Miami.
The first game (two quarters) was between the home team London Red Raiders and the visiting Hillsboro Indians, where if the Indians did anything in the preview event, they showed how powerful their offense has the potential to be.
In two quarters, the Indians defeated the Red Raiders 50-31.
In the first quarter alone, HHS outscored London 33-14.
The Indians opened the first of their two quarters with eight straight points, with seven coming from a four-point play by Christian Cundiff, followed with three more points (off a 3-pointer) by the senior.
After that, it was all Hillsboro as they scored the most points of any team in their two combined quarters in the preseason event.
Jordan Captain led HHS with 15 points, 10 in the first quarter. He was followed by Cundiff with 10 and Tyrand Cumberland with nine (one 3-pointer).
Chase Gilliland added seven points, and teammate Tyia Cumberland scored five points. Jarrod Hart and Trevor Gleadle each scored two points.
HHS was 10-of-18 from the free-throw line, finishing with four 3-pointers and 14 two-point baskets.
For the Red Raiders, they were led by Justin Coffey with 11 points. Zac Carey added nine points, and Antonio Wilson scored four points. Deion Rockhold finished with three points, and Kyle Fisher and Jordan Napper each had two points.
LHS didn't attempt a free throw and made a total of five 3-pointers with Coffey finishing with three of the five 3-pointers.
The Indians open the season on Dec. 2 in a home game against Western Brown. The Red Raiders open their season on Dec. 2 against Yellow Springs at McKinney High School.

Madison-Plains 28, McClain 20
The second two-quarter game of the night had away Madison-Plains against the home team in McClain. The Golden Eagles finished with the most points, winning the two-quarter contest 28-20.
For the Tigers, they were led by Ryan Faulconer and Evan Mustard, each with five points. They were followed with four points from Thomas Schrader and three points by Trey Lytle. Trevor Gossett, Brent Shannon and John Turner each scored one point.
MHS was 3-of-11 from the free-throw line and made five two-point baskets and one 3-pointer. The 3-pointer came in the second quarter from Mustard.
The Golden Eagles of MP were led in scoring by Alex Williams with 17 points. The remaining MP scoring included: Brooks Carter (5), Hunter Butin (2), Ryne Davis (2) and John Siler (2).
MP was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. They also connected from the 3-point line with Carter and Williams each making one. MP also made 10 two-point baskets.
The Tigers will open the season at home on Dec. 2 as they host Jackson. MP will open on the road with an away game against Unioto on Dec. 2.

East Clinton 18, Washington 15
The last three quarters were a mixture of three teams with Washington facing East Clinton for a quarter, followed by Miami Trace facing East Clinton, and in the final quarter, the Blue Lions faced Miami Trace.
EC will become a full-time member of the SCOL next year for the 2012 fall season and beyond. Currently, they are a member of the SBAAC.
The one-quarter contest between the Astros of East Clinton and Washington ended with EC leading by a score of 18-15.
At one point in the quarter, EC led 11-0.
Scoring for East Clinton was Lewis with eight, followed by Miller with four points. His four points came in one play as he was fouled as he made a 3-pointer. He converted the free throw for a four-point play, the second four-point play of the night.
Scoring two points each were Runk, Eltzroth and Henderson.
For the Blue Lions, they were led by Michael Penwell with six points. Chris Warning added four, and Derek Shaw had three points. Laike Wallace scored two points against EC.

East Clinton 17, Miami Trace 8
In their second quarter, East Clinton defeated MT 17-8. At one point in the quarter, the Astros led 7-2.
For EC, Lewis led again with seven points. Floyd scored six, and he was followed by Knisley and Ison with two points each.
Blake Baldwin scored all eight MT points against EC.
East Clinton opens their regular season on Dec. 2 at Fairfield (Leesburg).

Miami Trace 13, Washington 10
In the final quarter of play, the Panthers outscored their rivals Washington 13-10 as both team wore their away uniforms with Washington in their blue away jersey and Miami Trace in the away black jersey.
Trevor Smith led MT with five points, followed by four points from Baldwin. Baldwin finished his two quarters of play with a combined 12 points against East Clinton and Washington.
Cederic Pettiford wrapped up the MT scoring with four points.
Washington opens the season at Waverly High School on Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. The Panthers will play their first game on Dec. 2 at Lynchburg-Clay.[[In-content Ad]]
