Blue Lions top Lady Mustangs
WASHINGTON C.H. – The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs had trouble in all aspects of their game Tuesday evening at Washington Senior High School, as they were defeated in the non-league contest 45-17 by the Washington Lady Blue Lions, in the first game at the new WSHS basketball gym.
The Lady Mustangs, who stand at 1-1 overall, trailed 26-7 at the half, scoring three points in the first quarter.
Washington (0-0, 2-1) forced L-C into 12 turnovers in the first half.
Lynchburg-Clay (0-0, 1-1) were led by Laney Lewis, a freshman, with six points. Sophomore Brooke Hertlein made a 3-pointer, finishing the game with three points for L-C.
L-C senior Cali Hatten made three free throws for a total of three points, and junior Hannah Blankenship netted five points.
The Lady Mustangs went 4 of 7 from the free throw line and were 6 of 33 from the field for 18 percent.
WSHS senior Lauryn Robinson led all scorers with a game-high 11 points, sinking five free throws and three shots from the field.
In JV play, L-C was defeated by Washington 30-26. Emma Setty ended the contest by leading L-C with 12 points. Karen Hilt added 10 points for L-C.
L-C will play again this Thursday as the travel to take on West Union in their first Southern Hills League game of the season. The JV game will start at 6 p.m.
