Blanchester tops SHL champ Mustangs

DODSONVILLE — In a non-league game on Wednesday, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs were unable to get into a rhythm as they were defeated 5-1 by the Blanchester Wildcats at LCHS.

LC, the reigning Southern Hills League Division I champions, now stand at 13-9 overall, with 10 wins coming in league play as they are 10-2 in the SHL with a game against Peebles scheduled for Thursday to wrap up the league schedule.

On Wednesday, LC was held to five hits with one run, as it came in the fifth inning when Josh Bauer scored on a hit by Gage Waits.

Runs by Blanchester came in the top of the first inning, along with three in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Waits finished 2-for-4 with one RBI, while Wes Pierson, Scott Cawood and Bauer each had one hit. Pierson's hit was a triple, as he also walked. Bauer also walked, as did Tyler Davidson and Chaz Lanier.

The pitching loss was charged to Cawood, as he pitched 4 2-3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, one hit batter and two walks. Zach Mahoney pitched 1 1-3 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and one hit batter.

LC committed five errors, and BHS had one error.
