BLANCHESTER — Being in the lead at halftime wasn't enough for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs on Tuesday night. LC was outscored by 22 points in the third frame, leading to a 67-46 loss against the Blanchester Wildcats on Tuesday at BHS.

LC (1-1) was up by one point at 27-26 following the first two quarters in the non-league matchup.

Things didn't go so well once the second half began for the away team.

Blanchester outscored the visiting Mustangs 28-6 in the third, due in large part to great scoring and defensive pressure by Travis Jackson. Jackson finished with a game-high of 32 points.

"Our post defense was great," LC head coach Jason McLaughlin said. "We held their 6-8 kid to six points."

Alec Smith led the Mustangs in scoring with 11 points.

Gage Waits and Tyler Davidson each had nine points. Ryan Inman had another great all-around game with eight points and nine rebounds.

"Their athleticism and bench wore us out," McLaughlin said. "Our turnovers in the third led to easy transition baskets for them."

The loss sends LC to 1-1 overall. The Mustangs will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 9 when they host the Ripley Blue Jays.[[In-content Ad]]
