Bengals extend contract of Evan McPherson
The Cincinnati Bengals Sunday signed kicker Evan McPherson to a three-year contract extension through the 2027 season.
McPherson, a fourth-year player, originally was a fifth-round draft pick of the Bengals in 2021. He has played in 49 regular-season games for Cincinnati and converted 78-of-93 FG attempts, along with 126 of 132 PATs.
His 21 career made FGs from 50 or more yards are the most in team history, the most in NFL history in a player’s first three seasons and tied for the most by any kicker since he entered the league in 2021. He has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week three times, and his 83.9 career FG percentage is the third-highest in team history (minimum 75 attempts).
“Evan has shown to be a consistent weapon for our team,” said head coach Zac Taylor. “He has come through in enormous moments for us, and he’s a big part of what we’re going to do going forward. He represents himself and the team the right way, and I’m very excited for Evan and his family that we were able to get this done before the season.”
McPherson also has played in seven postseason games for the Bengals and is the team’s all-time leader in postseason scoring (69 points). He is a perfect 19-of-19 on postseason FG attempts, marking the second-most made FGs without a miss to begin a postseason career in NFL history behind former Chicago/N.Y. Giants/San Francisco K Robbie Gould (29).
Two of his postseason FGs were game-winning “walk-off” kicks after the 2021 season, including a 52-yarder in the AFC Divisional Playoff at Tennessee and a 31-yarder in overtime of the AFC Championship at Kansas City that sent the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI.
