Bengals and Patriots Week 1 Blog (updated during game)

• First thought: Holy crap the Bengals defense is getting destroyed early! Either they are terrible or the Patriots' offense is really good. Geez!
• Maybe it it just the fact the Patriots are pretty good. But, again, it is just the first quarter.
• Already getting texts from Bengal fans angry and wanting to turn off TV.
• Pats take 10-0 lead in first quarter. Who Dey?
• Batman and Robin (T.O. and Ocho) have has their chances early with passes in their direction.
• Benson fumbles. Pats recover. Oh no, the Bengals are crumbling in the first quarter on both sides of the football.
• Just looking at both teams, so far, the Pats look a lot smoother in all aspects of the game. Cincinnati realizes the preseason is over, right?
• END OF 1st QUARTER: Bengals 0, Patriots 10
2nd QUARTER
• Sweet hit by Jonathan Joseph.
• Pats miss field goal. No harm, no foul on the turnover I guess.
• Looks like the Bengals are starting to calm down some on offense.
• OK, maybe not. Patriots knew what was coming with the pressure and short pass to Owens. Get the punt team out!
• How many running back do the patriots have?
• Chris Crocker breaks up what could have been the biggest play of the game for the Pats. Tom Brady threw that ball like he had a 19 million dollar arm ... Oh wait, he does. New contract Thursday.
(Tom Brady is the only person in the world who can have a car accident, be fine, go sign the highest contract in NFL history, then go home of a model wife.) What a life.
• Hey Bengals don't all out blitz against Tom Brady. Looks what happens. BTW Who Dey, the point of defense is to stop the offense. C'mon you are killin' my fantasy team!!!!
• Oh noes, Brady is on a roll. What a throw and catch near the sideline. Noting anyone can do there.
• Bengals are starting a nice goal line stand. Third down, here were go with 9:04 left in 2nd. Wes Welker TD at the inch line of the end zone. Welker takes two crushing hits.
• HERE IS THE CHALLENGE by LEWIS. Get that red flag out!
• Welker's catch ruled a TD. PAT is good, 17-0 Pats.
• There is the T.O. I remember, Dropped ball.
• That had to be the slowest no-huddle play call ever. Slow enough that when Palmer called the play, then changed it Bill. B ran down the sideline to call time out.
• The Pats are playing so well right now, they just played "Welcome to the Jungle" in New England. Or maybe they were trying to help Cincinnati with Benson getting a first down run on the next play. That was nice of New England.
• Bengals reach NE's side of the field. and Palmer throws an INT. PICK 6 to be excat. INT by a backup linebacker. Holy CRAP! Extra point is good: Pats lead 24-0 in 2nd quarter.
• How about the Bengals' o-line block with some pass protection? Good theng they can block for Benson though. Kinda.
• Very nice QB sneak by Carson Palmer. 2:00 warning.
• Palmer's receivers aren't helping him much. But he needs to fix some things too. A sloppy 1st half by the Bengals.
• Mike Nugent kicks a 54 yard FG. Ties career long field goal. First FG with the Bengals. CIN 3, NE 24. 12-play drive by Cincinnati ends in three points.
• Kevin Faulk makes Adam Jones miss a tackle. How old is Faulk, like 60?
• Another challenge, this time by the officials. After 80 replays Randy Moss's (catch) near sideline is ruled a ... HURRY UP ... Longest challenge ever .... just ate a sandwich ... the play is ruled a ... a bobble, incomplete pass.
• Stephen Gostkowski misses a 56-yard FG.
• A hail mary attempt by Palmer caught by Jordan Shipley just short of the goaline. Where in the heck was OCHO and T.O.? Why go to the locker room before halftime, when something like that happens? No wonder they are down 21 points!
• I guess you can say Batman and Robin left the crime scene.

• Brandon Tate returns kickoff 97 yards for TD to add to the domination of the Bengals today. Maybe Who Dey should have just stayed in the locker room.

• NE has touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams and its only the 3rd quarter.
• Glad to see T.O. and Ocho made it to the field for the 3rd quarter. Hope Ocho's IV helps the Bengals score points in the second half.
• What a "catch" by Shipley. Looks like he's the best receiver on the team.
• Ocho just caught his 10,000th yard with the Bengals.
• Cincinnati is finally looking like a football team. Too bad the game started a couple hours ago.
• Palmer takes a big hit, while trying to get to the end zone. Like the defensive back reference by Simms as speeding bullets.
• Jermaine Gresham catches first career TD and first CIN TD of the year on a 1 yard pass. Nice drive by CIN, 12 plays, 80 yards. Still trail 31-10 with 6:54 left in 3rd.
• Pats look like they are in cruise control.
• Three-and-out by the Bengals' defense. FINALLY!
• T.O. catches 15,000th yard in career.
• Ocho almost has a first down, but Benson does the hard work on fourth-and-inches.
• Very nice TD catch by Ocho for 28 yards. 63rd career TD. Looks like the IV worked. Trail 31-17 with 22 seconds left in 3rd.
• Where was this effort in the 1st half?

4th QUARTER
• Cincinnati needs a BIG-TIME defensive stand to start the 4th to stay in this game.
• Didn't happen. Pats lead 38-17
