Bearcats win over rival Huntington

On the road for the final time this regular season, the Paint Valley Bearcats left the field with a win, this time defeating the Huntington Huntsmen, 28-7 Friday night.
The Bearcats held Huntington scoreless for almost the entire game, but the shutout went away with 22 seconds remaining on the fourth quarter clock.
PV (5-3-1) went on a tear in the first half as they scored 22 points in the first two quarters against the Ross County and Scioto Valley Conference rival with eight points in the first quarter and 14 more in the second frame.
Mark Clifford was first to score as he scored on a 2-yard TD run. Quentin Tesi added two points with a run on the 2-point conversion for the 8-0 lead.
"The play of Mark Clifford really stands out for me," PV head coach Pete Hollon said. "That's what we've been waiting for all season. He's finally healthy and healed up, and he played well."
Anthony McFadden followed with a TD in the second quarter, scoring on a 3-yard dash to the end zone. McFadden followed with a pass to Teagan McFadden for 2 points and a 16-0 advantage.
Still in the second quarter, Tesi scored on a 2-yard run. The run for two points failed, still giving the visiting Bearcats a lead of 22 points at the half.
Clifford scored his second TD of the game in the fourth quarter when he raced six yards for six points. The PAT failed, leaving PV with a lead of 28 points.
John Hettinger put the Huntsmen on the board with 22 seconds left in the game on a 22-yard run. David Shoemaker kicked the PAT.

For PV, they played a lot of the second half with younger players due to some injuries, as at one point the Bearcats had two sophomores and four freshmen on defense.
"It was rewarding to see the young kids play as well as they did," Hollon said. "They played well, and a lot of that is due to our seniors and getting them prepared with their leadership. The seniors have held us together this year and have done a great job with the underclassmen."
As a team, the Bearcats totaled 316 yards rushing on 52 carries. They were led by Clifford with 20 of those carries for 169 yards and the aforementioned two TDs. Tesi followed with 22 carries and 83 yards.
"Those rushing numbers were in big part due to our offensive line and how well they played," Hollon said. "Our o-line dominated up front.
"This was the best Huntington team I've seen in a long time. Mix that with it being a rivalry game … this was one of those games where everything comes together."
Also gaining yards for PV were Teagan McFadden with 67 yards on seven carries, Anthony McFadden with 43 yards on six rushes and Tony Hatfield with 40 yards on five rushes.
Teagan McFadden also had two catches for 26 yards, and QB Anthony McFadden was 5-of-9 for 72 yards in the air.
PV totaled 388 yards of offense while their defense held Huntington to 188 yards as HHS entered the game, scoring 36 points per game.
Leading the PV defense was Chris Sellenstein with eight tackles, followed by Anthony McFadden with seven tackles and Logan McGraw with seven tackles.
The PV defense also had three fumble recoveries.
PV will host Unioto this Friday in Week 10. A win by the Bearcats and a few wins and losses by other schools could put the Bearcats in the postseason.
"We are in the playoff hunt … if we get a win and other things happen, who knows," Hollon said. "I want us to end the season on a strong note and get one last win for our seniors on the home field and use this season to build off during the upcoming offseason."
