Bearcats rush to 2-0 start

The Paint Valley Bearcats are off to a 2-0 start this season, as their rushing game completely set the tone and dominated in their game against Williamsburg as the host Bearcats ran away with a 53-13 win Friday at PVHS.
PV, in front of one of their largest crowds in recent memory, rushed the football 57 times for 349 yards as the team totaled eight touchdowns en route to their non-league victory.
"This was a big night for us," Paint Valley head coach Pete Hollon said. "Williamsburg was a quality opponent, and they got to us early with their first-quarter scores. Our kids battled back, tied the score at 13 in the second and our defense went from there."
Though the Bearcats dominated a majority of the game, the first quarter wasn't so great for them as they trailed 13-6 when Williamsburg scored on a 75-yard touchdown their first possession and later on with a 51-yard score.
Williamsburg totaled 163 yards of offense, with 126 of those yards coming on the aforementioned 75-yard score on a 51-yard touchdown.
After the first quarter, though, PV outscored the visitors 47-0 in the final three quarters.
PV senior Kyle Kottenbrook led the Bearcats with four scores with one touchdown in the first quarter, followed by two TDs in the second and one in the third. Kottenbrook finished the game with a team-high 24 rushes for 165 yards.

Quentin Tesi, a senior, added touchdowns in the second and third frames (12 carries for 57 yards), and in the fourth, Mark Clifford (7 carries for 47 yards) and Tony Hatfield (3 carries for 57 yards) scored touchdowns with Hatfield rushing for a 36-yard score.
Quarterback Anthony McFadden was 3-of-7 for 72 yards.
"Our kids are doing things the right way," Hollon said. "Our interior line played extremely well. We used three tight ends (Nate Yoakum, Cody Crase and Mason McCloy) who all played well, and our offensive line (Roddy Long, Dakota Morgan, Tyler Rumfield, Riley Markko and Tyler Matthews) created a new line of scrimmage each play."
Hollon and his coaching staff are pleased with the play of the Bearcats after two games.
"Right now, I'm happy with our defense," he said. "We're not a big team physically, but we are utilizing our quickness on both sides of the ball.
"Williamsburg is a big, strong and physical team, and we made the blocks to get the yards needed. I feel in the second half, our conditioning took over and took them out of their game."
Next week, the Bearcats play in their second away game as they face Cedarville (1-1) at 7:30 p.m.
