For the second time in consecutive weeks, the Paint Valley Bearcats left the football field with a loss. This time, it was on the road to the Adena Warriors, as the Bearcats lost a late lead and the game by a final score of 25-24.

The loss moves the Bearcats to second place in the Scioto Valley Conference, as they trail leader Westfall in the conference standings.

In the week eight game Friday night, the Bearcats had a 16-0 lead after the first quarter off two touchdowns from Teagan McFadden, the first being a 20-yard run and the second one being a 17-yard run.

The two touchdowns were accompanied by two 2-point conversions with Nate Yoakum running the ball into the end zone for two yards and Anthony McFadden passing to Dylan Estep for the second 2-point conversion.

Teagan McFadden finished the game with 17 rushes for 178 yards (two touchdowns), and he also had four receptions for 56 yards.

Adena's Cade Harper threw a 63-yard TD pass to Tyrell Pettiford in the second quarter, making the score 16-6 at halftime, as PV was held scoreless in the second quarter.

"This was a game we had complete control through two and a half quarters," PV head coach Pete Hollon said. "We took away their run game and forced them to throw the ball.

"Our aggressive style of play came back and bit us as we allowed four big plays through the air in the second half."

The aggressiveness of the Bearcats did catch up with them with Adena scoring the game's next three touchdowns.

Adena had two touchdowns in the third quarter, totaling 12 points in the frame. The first of these two TDs came as Harper found Issac Thomas for a 37-yard pass and catch for six points. The next score was a 47-yard pass from Harper to Pettiford to put the Warriors ahead, 18-12 after three quarters.

PV rallied to regain the lead off an 8-yard run by Yoakum. Teagan McFadden scored on the 2-point conversion for a Bearcat lead of 24-18.

A win wasn't in the books for the Bearcats as Harper found on a 53-yard pass to Thomas for the Warriors' fourth touchdown, third of the second half.

"We mostly play man coverage, but part of that is based on putting pressure on the quarterback, and for the second straight week, we have not done a good job with pressure, which in turn stresses our coverage people," Hollon said. "Going forward, we will probably need to use zone coverage more in passing situations just to get away from some tendencies we have developed."

Hollon said his offense needs to start "putting teams away."

"Offensively, we need to be able to put teams away," he said. "We had the ball inside their 30-yard line on four possessions in which we did not score. We had the ball inside their 30-yard line twice in the final five minutes."

At quarterback for PV was Anthony McFadden, who finished 9-of-19 for 104 yards and two interceptions. Also for PV, not playing in the game was starting fullback Mark Clifford.

The Bearcats are still in the playoff hunt as they control their own fate with two regular-season games remaining. In the projected computer rankings that will be released Tuesday, PV could be as high as fifth in Region 26 as the Top 8 teams earn a playoff berth at the conclusion of the regular season.

PV will play at Piketon on Friday, Oct. 25 in their week nine game.
