For the first time in 10 seasons, the Paint Valley Bearcats can officially say they are back in the playoffs and Scioto Valley Conference champions.

Paint Valley ended their regular season by defeating the Huntington Huntsmen, 49-16 Friday night and with that clinched a share of the SVC football championship for the first time since the '03 season. PV will share the title with Westfall and Zane Trace, as each team went 5-2 in the conference.

The Bearcats will play in Week 11, as they are a No. 5 seed in the Region 26 playoff bracket and will face No. 4 seeded Lehman Catholic (9-1) on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at Sidney High School.

"It has been 10 years since we won a league title and have been in the playoffs," PV head coach Pete Hollon said. "It is a good feeling for the team (making the playoffs) because we have seven sophomore starters, and I'm tickled for the seniors because they were able to achieve most of their regular-season goals."

In their regular-season finale, the Bearcats were tied at 8-8 apiece at the conclusion of the first quarter.

Huntington's touchdown came from David Shoemaker, who took the ball two yards into the end zone for six points. That was followed by the Huntsmen converting a two-point conversion run and their 8-0 lead.

PV answered back in the first when Anthony McFadden (6-for-7, 135 yards passing) found Tony Hatfield for 67 yards and a touchdown. Teagan McFadden tied the game at PV's George Knisley Field with a two-point conversion run for an 8-8 score. Teagan McFadden finished with seven carries for 144 yards, putting the sophomore over the 1,000-yard mark for the season.

The second quarter was all the home team with PV outscoring the visiting Huntsmen (0-10), 20-0 in the 12-minute frame.

Nate Yoakum began the second-quarter scoring with a 6-yard run to the end zone. That was followed by a run of 21 yards by Anthony McFadden on a quarterback keeper. From there, the third score of the second came off a 38-yard run by Mark Clifford. Two of the three PATs in that span by Anthony McFadden were good.

Clifford totaled 110 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns. For the season, he had 990 yards.

PV led 28-8 at the half.

"I'm very proud of this team," Hollon said. "They've overcome a lot this year, and it was good to see the kids rise above the adversity and overcome."

In the third, PV added three more touchdowns to seal the win. PV's first touchdown of the third came off an 87-yard kickoff return by Dylan Estep, followed by the PAT by Anthony McFadden.

From there, Clifford scored his second and third touchdowns of the game off runs of three yards and one yard, both with PATs from Anthony McFadden.

The final score of the game came off a touchdown run of six yards by Shoemaker in the fourth quarter. HHS also converted a two-point conversion run.

For the game, PV totaled 410 yards of offense, including 275 yards rushing on 29 carries. The defense of PV allows just 134 total yards, which 61 of this yards came on the first drive of the game.

Dakota Morgan led PV with 14 tackles and one sack. Yoakum totaled 11 tackles.
