Amvets/Elks golf tournament to be held June 14-17

The third annual golf "Fun in the Sun" tournament will be held Thursday, June 14 through Sunday, June 17 at Amvets Post 61, 11541 North Shore Drive, Hillsboro.

This regional RE/MAX world long drive super qualifier is the biggest amateur open and senior division long drive contest anywhere. The amateur competition consists of nine flights each for males and females ages 10 through 80-plus.

In addition to the golf competition, there will be events for the whole family. On Thursday at noon, the campground will open. Fees are $10 a day or $25 for the weekend or $5 a day per person.

Friday will be an amateurs contest all day, with karaoke beginning at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, there will be an open pro super regional qualifier from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. A luau and hog roast will begin at 6 p.m. with live music starting at 7 p.m.

On Sunday will be amateurs and military finals from 8 a.m. till dark.

In addition, there will be breakfast, lunch and dinner, soft drinks and adult beverages for sale every day. There will be cornhole, horseshoes, 50/50, raffle and golf swap meet.
