9 Wilmington Quakers named All-Region; 3 earn regional awards

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their 2025 Division III Outdoor Track and Field Regional Awards and the Division III Outdoor Track and Field All-Region teams.

Overall, the Quakers had nine individuals recognized with seven All-Region performers and two coaches earning regional awards.

Senior Nathen Borgan became the first Quakers male athlete to earn Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year for either track or field during the outdoor season, as he took home Men’s Field Athlete of the Year honors. His teammate JJ Durr was the first to win any men’s regional award during the winter as he took home Great Lakes Region Indoor Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.

Borgan dominated during the outdoor season, becoming the first Quaker ever to win the Hammer Throw National Championship, winning with a mark of 64.74m. He won all but one Hammer Throw competition during the outdoor season and threw a career best 66.12m. This was the third All-Region honor of his career in the Hammer Throw.

Senior JJ Durr earned the fourth All-Region honor of his career in the Hammer Throw, as he took home his third First Team All-American honor in the event last week with a fourth-place finish at 62.37m. He won the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship in the event and finished his career with a personal best toss of 64.33m.

Graduate Student Simon Heys was named All-Region in both the 5000- and 10,000-Meter Runs. This is the fifth time in his career that he was named All-Region in both events. He became a three-time First Team All-American in the 10,000 Meter Run last week at the Outdoor National Championships, finishing eighth with a time of 29:44.82. He also set his personal best time in the outdoor 5000 Meter Run at 13:57.78 in late March.

Graduate student Noah Tobin earned the first outdoor All-Region honor of his career, doing it in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase. He was the OAC champion in the event this season and finished with a career best time of 9:08.92 at the OAC Championships.

Senior Brady Vilvens became a three-time All-Region honoree in the outdoor High Jump. He finished as a Second Team All-American in the event last week, tying for ninth with a clearance of 2.00m. He finished his career as a three time All-American in the event and a personal best clearance of 2.09m.

Junior Faith Duncan was All-Region in the 1500 Meter Run, 5000 Meter Run, and 10,000 Meter Run. She becomes a two-time All-Region honoree in the outdoor 5000 Meter Run. She was the OAC Champion in the 10,000 Meter Run, but unfortunately was unable to compete at the National Championships due to injury. She set a new personal best in the 10,000 Meter Run at 32:57.31 and the 1500 Meter Run at 4:32.28 this outdoor season.

Freshman Chloe Lovett earned the first All-Region honor of her career in the 400 Meter Hurdles. She was second at the OAC Championships in the event and goes into next season with a personal best time of 1:03.18.

Quakers head coach Tristen Durr was named the Great Lakes Region Men’s Coach of the Year for the first time in his career as he helped guide Borgan and Durr to a National Championship and fourth place finish last week at the Outdoor National Championships.

Quakers assistant coach Ron Combs was named the Great Lakes Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year. He also earned this honor during the indoor season. He helped guide Heys to a First Team All-American honor in the 10,000 Meter Run and Vilvens to a Second Team All-American honor in the High Jump last week.
